Restorative Dentistry, Caps, Crowns and Bridges
Cracked and broken
teeth are restored with caps or crowns. Two or more crowns joined together
form a bridge.
Gold crowns or
caps have been discovered in European tombs dating from the early 1700s.
During the latter
part of the 20th century, technology in the formation and placement of
crowns and bridges advanced dramatically. Not only are the teeth restored,
but also an abnormal bite or chewing surface is corrected, assuring that
all teeth in both top and bottom arches fit together to perform as a whole.
Attention is also paid to maintaining healthy gum tissue.
